Marcelo’s mysterious case in Olympiacos: terminating the contract… and returning to Madrid

Marcelo’s last match with Olympiacos was on January 11th. Since then, he hasn’t played anything. A signing already defined in Greece as a “fiasco” has disappointed the thousands of fans who turned out to greet him upon his arrival in Piraeus.

He scored three goals in 10 matches (all in the cup) and had only two assists. In total, only 332 minutes of which only 92 minutes are in the Greek League. A small burden left by the Brazilian signing, the legend of Real Madrid, is far from successful. The “fiasco” was completed on Saturday, when Marcelo terminated his contract with the Greek team, who had already announced his expulsion on social networks.

The Greek team said in a tweet on Twitter: “The time he spent with us was short, but enough to create eternal bonds. He knows that in Greece, in Piraeus, he will always have friends!”

The injured Brazilian full-back returns to Madrid to recover, and Real Madrid will treat him. This season, Marcelo has missed eight matches due to injury. In recent days, he has been absent due to an “unknown injury” that has not been officially reported to the local press. Meanwhile, rumors of his departure flooded the Greek media: the American League, the Middle East or a return to Brazil.

But the Brazilian player was still in Greece (even today) although, nevertheless, he added fuel to the fire when he stopped following the official Olympiacos account on Instagram and Twitter … something the fans of the Athenian team, always known for their passion, did not like.

BeIN Sports Greek journalist Fanis Tsokanas told Marca: “Many thought Marcelo was the best signing ever in the Greek League. There have been comparisons to Rivaldo. But he’s clearly not in great shape… although he had some very good moments. He maintains his excellent attacking quality, better than many attacking midfielders in the league.”
