Marca: “Asensio has turned his future upside down”
Marco Asensio is one of seven players whose contract expires on June 30. Both the club and the players take positions to articulate the futures of them all. The professionalism they all display is beyond doubt, and it shows the confidence Carlo Ancelotti has in them.
Each case is independent and they have nothing to do with each other. Asensio, at 27, is coveted by many, but his desire is to continue fulfilling his dream as a child: to play for Real Madrid.
Six of those players, who have already started the countdown and can sit down to talk to whomever they want, were directly involved in the match against Atlético Madrid, and they also appeared four days ago against Athletic Bilbao. They contributed to two decisive victories for the peace of mind of Madrid in the coming matches with the total and absolute commitment of all of them.
The seventh is Mariano Diaz, the only one of them who has made it clear that he will not continue with Real Madrid, or at least that is how they think of sports management.
Asensio wants to continue playing for the White Club. He feels like a Madrid player, and has trained like this since his arrival at the Bernabéu. In recent months, he has left behind difficult situations as he does so on the field, and has a crucial role in important matches.
The Real Madrid captains have already sent him an offer. He is on the table, as are others from top level teams. His agent, Jorge Mendes, listens to what comes to him, but he knows the priority is to forge an agreement with the team he picked when he was a Mallorca player.
In two or three weeks everything will be resolved. Asensio wants to feel important in the white shirt. Money in this case is secondary for him.
In that pending meeting with the leaders of Real Madrid, the concern is the role to play, not money or the years of the contract. Sporting happiness lies ahead of him and he knows he is in the best possible place to achieve it.
The leaders know that every player who ends his contract has his own peculiarities, but Asensio’s case is a special player because of his good goal-scoring ability and his 27-year-old.
The truth is that Asensio has turned the situation upside down. From feeling left out in the summer were it not for Ancelotti’s support, moving on to Florentino Perez’s tender gesture before the end of the year, which resulted in an offer of renewal. Now opens two weeks of reflection. As is logical, his presence at San Mamés helps, as does the fact that he is always included in the coach’s plans.
Marco Asensio has participated in 12 league matches, but has started only in three matches, 319 minutes, one goal and three assists. In the cup, he appeared in three matches with 160 minutes, while appearing in all six Champions League matches (two goals and an assist) and in both Super Cups. A few minutes of importance, but more than initially planned in the summer.
Ancelotti opened the door for him to resist and continue at Real Madrid while in August he was more outside than inside. The attacker insisted and did not lower his arms. Now, after proving his ability to contribute, he wants to take it a step further and that’s why he’s doing the renovation.
